Power BI brings a lot of flexibility when it comes to data reporting and visualization. That?s why Power BI has been divided into three versions.
- Power BI Desktop: This is the on-premise for window 10.
- Power BI Service: This is for publishing to the cloud.
- Mobile Power BI: This is for mobile users.
As of my last update in January 2022, there are several versions of Power BI, each catering to different needs and user segments. Here are the main versions:
- Power BI Desktop: This is a free desktop application that allows users to create reports and visualizations on their local machines. It’s primarily used by analysts and report developers for authoring reports.
- Power BI Pro: This is a subscription-based service that extends the capabilities of Power BI Desktop by allowing users to collaborate and share reports with others. It offers additional features such as higher data capacity limits, sharing and collaboration tools, and content management.
- Power BI Premium: This version is designed for larger organizations with more extensive data needs. Power BI Premium provides dedicated capacity for deploying and managing large-scale BI solutions. It offers features like increased storage capacity, enhanced performance, and advanced administration and governance capabilities.
- Power BI Report Server: This is an on-premises report server that allows organizations to host and manage their Power BI reports and dashboards within their own infrastructure. It’s suitable for organizations with strict data governance requirements or those who prefer to keep their data on-premises.
- Power BI Mobile: This is a mobile app available for iOS, Android, and Windows devices, allowing users to access and interact with their Power BI reports and dashboards on the go.
Depending on the context of the interview question, you might want to elaborate on the differences between these versions, their target users, and their key features.
