What are the principal segments of the Windows Azure platform?

Windows Azure has the following three principal segments:

  • Windows Azure Compute: It gives a code that can be managed by the hosting environment. It provides the benefit of
  • calculation through parts. It consists of three types of roles – Web Role, Worker Role, and VM Role.
  • Windows Azure Storage: It gives four types of Storage services – Queue, Tables, Blobs, and Windows Azure Drives (VHD)
  • Windows Azure AppFabric: AppFabric provides five services – Service bus, Access, Caching, Integration, and Composite.

Microsoft Azure had undergone a rebranding, and the term “Windows Azure” was replaced with “Microsoft Azure.” The platform is organized into various services and categories. Keep in mind that the structure and naming conventions might have evolved since then. However, as of my last update, the principal segments of Microsoft Azure include:

  1. Compute Services: This includes Virtual Machines (VMs), App Service (for web apps), and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) for container orchestration.
  2. Storage Services: Azure provides various storage options, such as Blob Storage, Table Storage, Queue Storage, and Azure File Storage.
  3. Networking Services: Azure offers a range of networking capabilities, including Virtual Network, Azure Load Balancer, Azure VPN Gateway, and Azure CDN.
  4. Database Services: Azure provides various database options, including Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, Azure Database for MySQL, and Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
  5. Identity and Access Management: Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) is a key component for managing identities and access in the cloud.
  6. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning: Azure offers services like Azure Machine Learning, Azure Cognitive Services, and Azure Bot Service.
  7. Internet of Things (IoT): Azure IoT Hub and related services enable the development and management of IoT solutions.
  8. DevOps and Developer Tools: Azure DevOps services, Visual Studio Team Services, and integrations with popular development tools facilitate the development lifecycle.
  9. Management and Monitoring Services: Azure provides tools like Azure Monitor, Azure Security Center, and Azure Policy for managing and monitoring resources.
  10. Security and Compliance: Azure offers various services to enhance security, such as Azure Security Center and Azure Active Directory Identity Protection.
